Welcome again everyone .... Something different this week. I'm too lazy to write a report on each match, so just a general comment .... Southport won again .... Morningside and Maroochydore lost again !!! (Just for something new) No, actually I didn't go out to ANY footy on the weekend, I just fat-arsed around the house and got pissed..... (for a change, of course) So on with the wrap-up ....

Another unconvincing Southport performance racked up the club's eleventh consecutive victory, but once again stayed on course for an unbeaten season, this time only lucky to get there by less than two kicks against the Eagles. It wasn't such good news for the reserves though, who recorded the club's first senior loss for the season. (ooooooooh!!!) My spy tells me the unlucky Eagles led for all but the last five minutes of the match. Seems as though the wheels have fallen off the Sharks cart in the last few weeks, but winning has become such a habit that they keep falling over the line. While on the Sharks, I was talking shit last week .... 1951 wasn't the last time a side went undefeated through a season, the Sharks went undefeated in all three senior grades back in 1990. Talk about dominating the comp .... No wonder they're looking to join the SA or Vic comp.

Other News

I was remiss last week not to mention the ball-tearing effort our 18's put in during the national champs a fortnight ago. Not only did we go undefeated in our division, but Mitchell Hahn and Steve Kenna were chosen in the All-Aussie side, with coach Mark Browning named the assistant. Great effort by all the boys. All the results were as follows:

Division 1

WA 14-8-92 d Vic Country 13-9-87
Vic Metro 18-6-114 d SA 6-4-40

WA 12-9-81 d SA 9-7-61
Vic Metro 16-13-109 d Vic Country 6-9-45

SA 6-5-41 d Vic Country 3-9-27
WA 8-12-60 d Vic Metro 7-13-55

Division 2

NSW/ACT 20-22-142 d NT 7-11-53
QLD 10-13-73 d Tas 9-11-65

Tas 12-12-84 d NSW/ACT 5-15-45
QLD 13-12-90 d NT 9-8-62

Tas 13-13-91 d NT 7-7-49
QLD 13-12-90 d NSW/ACT 8-9-57

Division 1 Champions: Western Australia

Division 2 Champions: Queensland

I should also say congrats to the Sandgropers for wrapping up the divvy one title as well, beating Vic-Metro in the final by five points. (It was even better to see the Vics go home empty-handed I might add.)

There's now only five matches remaining before the finals and every game is a must-win for those clubs hovering around the middle of the table. The clubs still in contention for the finals, and their run home are below ..... (I've also put a win/loss result beside each to suss out a predicted table)

SOUTHPORT: 'Side(w) Mounties(w) Maroochy(w) Lion Cubs(w) Labrador(w)
MOUNTIES: Labrador(w) Southport(L) Broady(w) bye Mayne(w)
LABRADOR: Mounties(L) Eagles(L) bye Broady(w) Southport(L)
LION CUBS: Mayne(w) Maroochydore(w) Eagles(L) Southport(L) bye
EAGLES: Maroochy(w) Labrador(w) Lion Cubs(w) 'Side (w) Broady(w)
BROADBEACH: bye Mayne(w) Mounties(L) Labrador(L) Eagles (L)
MAYNE: Lion Cubs(L) Broady(L) 'Side(w) Maroochy(w) Mounties(L)

This would leave a final table like this:

Southport-64
Mt.Gravatt-48
Eagles-44
Lion Cubs-36
Labrador-32
Broadbeach-24
Mayne-24
Morningside-16
Maroochydore-0 (and relegated, hopefully)

Finals Predictions:

Mounties to defeat Eagles
Cubs to defeat Tiges
Southport to defeat Mounties
Eagles to defeat Cubs
Eagles to defeat Mounties
.........in the granny between Eagles and Sharks ............ anybody's game !!!!

Next Week

Round 14 sees Morningside travel down the coast to take on Southport in a replay of last year's decider .... although on the Panthers' performances of late, you'd never guess. Southport will hand Morningside a shellacking!!! Mounties head down the coast as well to do battle with Labrador in what should be a pointer to who plays who in the finals. Perhaps the Vultures could catch the same bus as Morningside and give them a few pointers .... like how to run, catch and kick!!! Mounties by five goals, but will know they've been in a game. Maroochydore head down the "Bruce" to get their arse tanned at the Eagles' lair ....I'll be brave .... the Zillmere boys by 15 goals. This is the Tiges' last chance to qualify and must win all their remaining games .... But I don't think they will .... The Cubs at the Gabba are too big,too strong, too fast rah rah rah!!! Cubs by four. Broady have the bye.

I jagged 3 out of 4 last week, going for the upset in the Tigers-Cubs match which didn't eventuate. This gives me 41/52 which is better than how I thought I'd go. I've gone all the faves this week (like a punce) but I think this week will leave the semis pretty cut and dried.

AFL Footypix Tipping Competition

Six rounds to go and I'm still hanging in there at no.2 behind Chaddo, after grabbing 6/8. Big movers; Dave Raphael down 9,big Matty down 7,three guys shifted up six,Schultzy(the big shiela) sat still .... As usual .... But the big news is that the only dual-champion, Ted Cleary continues his steady climb up the ladder, now in 8th and only seven off the pace. History dictates to "watch this space".
