They won all three grades of games. In the Seniors, it was the clash of the year, the cream of the crops went against each other in the resurrection of the Intrastate grudge matches. Led by the brilliance of Ben Atkin the South midfield ran riot on the York Park oval, the experience of Atkin, Winter, Allen, Read.. along with the youth of Clarence's Geappen brothers and the unexpected performance of young rookie ruckman Charlie Beaumont sent the Northerners reeling as they were thrashed by 46 points. Andrew McLean was outstanding for the Northerners he was well backed up by Vaughan Dell at full back . Charles Beaumont completely dominated his Northern opponents in the ruck beating renowned ruckmen in Brad Davis and Matthew Langmaid, he resembled the energizer bunny in the way he went about his work not only in the ruck but also moving toward the forward line. Ben Atkin took out the Weller Arnold medal to add to his growing collection and Vaughan Dell took out the "Gypsy" Lee medal for the losing side. **************************************************************************** NEXT WEEK: DEVONPORT POWER v HOBART DEMONS (Devonport) CLARENCE v GLENORCHY (Bellerive) NORTHERN BOMBERS v BURNIE DOCKERS (York Park) **************************************************************************** Under 21's SOUTH 12.8.80 defeated NORTH 9.8.62 BEST SOUTH Ball, Leitch, Glenn, Cox, Devine, Free, Thurley, Burnett NORTH Bester, Taylor, Ling, Graccogna, Humphries, Nash GOALS SOUTH Thurley 4, Ball 2, Davis 2, Hill, Devine, Jamieson, Beechey NORTH unavailable **************************************************************************** Under 18's SOUTH 9.11.65 defeated NORTH 7.8.50 BEST SOUTH Walker, Kaufman, Unsworth, Moore, Kline, Kean NORTH Miller, Shadbolt, Streets, Routledge, Keogh, Knight GOALS SOUTH Harrison 2, Jamieson 2, Ziegler 2, Bentley, Fyshe, Kaufman NORTH Scolyer 2, Young 2, Knight, Hess, Whittle **************************************************************************** OTHER LEAGUE RESULTS SFL v NTFL NTFL 11.6.72 defeated SFL 8.11.59 TASMAN SWANSEA 29.19.193 defeated TRIABUNNA 5.2.32 RICHMOND 15.12.102 defeated DODGES FERRY 15.7.97 NTFL LAUNCESTON 15.12.102 defeated 8.15.63 SOUTH LAUNCESTON 18.15.123 defeated PENGUIN 8.9.57 LATROBE 24.19.163 defeated EAST DEVONPORT 12.6.78 DELORAINE 17.10.112 defeated SMITHTON 13.12.90 **************************************************************************** FINAL SIREN Till next Week, get out there and support your club and the league, lets get some butts on seats this year and let the doubters know, that Tasmanian Football is still alive!!! **************************************************************************** |
