Comments
After both sides shook of nerves
the first term was even with Sturt having a slight advantage
and leading by 2 points at the first break.
In the second term Sturt took
control and looked set to run away with the game with their small
men dominating. But late quarter goals to Port and Sturt's
inaccurate kicking saw the Double Blues hold only a 4 point margin
at the main break.
Stephen Williams tore into his
players at half time and the Port players responded by lifting
their work rate in the 3rd quarter which saw them in front by
7 points at 3/4 time.
At the start of the final term
the Double Blues came out firing. Two quick goals saw them take
the lead and with the momentum all Sturts way they were seemingly
headed for victory. Port though had other ideas and they
steadied and took back the lead and ended up winning by 9 points.
On a different note Port's Darren
Smith (343 game) and Scott Hodges (183 games) both have announced
their retirements. |
