Well what an exciting round it was this week. Going into the round 3 teams were undefeated and South hadn't won a game. Now this week all teams have lost at least one game and the Panthers finally have a win on the board.
Under lights at the Adelaide Oval on Friday night the Doggies scored an impressive 38 point win over the previously undefeated Sturt. The first quarter was a tight struggle and at the first break Sturt lead by 3 points. From then on though it was Centrals who, without a number of star players (including John Platten and Gilbert McAdam), stepped up a gear and took control of the game.
For the third straight year the Roosters won at Alberton Oval. North, led by a best on ground performance by ruckman Lucas Herbet, dominated at ground level and ran out winners by the smallest of margins, 1 point. After the game McDermott praised his players for the way they played, while Williams made no excuses for the way his team played and stated that the Port players needed to go back to basics.
At Woodville Oval the Eagles started strongly kicking 6 goals while keeping the Bloods to 1 in the first quarter. The Eagles kept at it and were 41 points in front half way through the final term. The Bloods then hit gear and kicked 4 goals in seven minutes. It was too little too late though as the Eagles bottled up play in the final minutes and ran out winners by 10 points.
Despite being bottom of the table South dominated all day against a poor Glenelg side. The end score didn't protray the extent to which the Panthers controlled the entire game. The only Glenelg player who could hold his head up was Bartlett at centre half back. After the game Souths coach, Applegarth, stated that his players are now coming together, playing as a team and is looking forward to next weeks game against Port.
