Comments
This weeks round started on Friday
night with the clash between Norwood and Port at Norwood Oval.
The game had everything with great play, heavy bodywork, a Norwood
player getting reported, a Port official being reported, a fight
in the mini league and a tight and controversial finish.
Norwood started strongly and at half time looked set for an easy
win. Port though came out after the half time break and were
within 4 points before Norwood settled and led by 11 points at
3 quarter time. In the final quarter Port again came out
hard and 5 minutes into the term took the lead. Norwood
though settled and a took back the lead and ended up winning
by 1 point. Two controversies regarding umpiring decisions
happened during the match. The first where Port didn't
recieve a free resulting in a Norwood goal. The incident
caused a Port official to be reported for using insulting language
toward an umpire. The other a disputed juggling mark to
Norwood on the goal line in the final minutes of the game when
Norwood led by 1 point.
The Bays took the early lead
against West Adelaide before a brialliant 6 goal second term
by the Bloods saw them take control of the game. During
the game Glenelg had plenty of chances but were let down by poor
disposal and a lapse in the second term.
The Eagles ended their 3 game
losing streak by beating the league pace setter Sturt at Woodville
Oval. After a scrappy first term the Eagles dominated the
game and only allowed Sturt 2 goals after half time. With
the Eagles Andrew Payze playing his 300th game the Eagles showed
passion and desire something which has been missing in previous
games.
South Adelaide again showed that
they are not the leagues easy beats with a convincing demolition
of Centrals at Noarlunga Oval. The South players looking
towards a finals birth showed the determination and skill that
has been lacking for a number of years to outplay Centrals.
Apart from 10 minutes at the start of the final term the Panthers
were never challenged and ran out easy winners by 42 points.
In other news Glenelg have asked
the SANFL to look into the running of the club. Glenelg
instigated the review and have assured supporters they are not
currently in any financial trouble but want to modify their
administration before such an event
occurs.
