Comments

At Adelaide Oval it was the Magpies who dominated from the opening bounce and if it had not been for poor kicking at goal (13 goals from 35 shots) the margin would have been much greater.  After the match Port's coach Stephen Williams described the game as Ports best 4 quarter performance so far this year.  Chris McDermott (North's coach) though was totally disappointed and has stated that he has given up on making the finals and is now looking towards 1999.

It was a battle for fifth spot between Centrals and the Eagles at Woodville Oval, but it was the Doggies who came out fighting. Centrals kicked 6 goals to 2 in the first quarter and led by 27 points at half time.  In the final quarter the Eagles closed to within 16 points but Centrals steadied and ran out winners by 33 points.

Sturt confirmed its premiership favouritism with a thumping 85 point win over West at Richmond.  With Sturts Julian Burton kicking 9 goals (7 in the first half), the Double Blues never looked threatened and in the end ran out easy winners.

South and Glenelg travelled to Penola where the first half was fairly even with Glenelg in front at the main break.  In the second half the Panthers stepped up a gear and ran away from a disapointing Tiger outfit.  South have now won 7 of their past 10 games and is only out of the five by percentage.
