On Friday night South started
strongly but poor kicking by the Panthers kept West in touch
at the first break. The Bloods then kicked away from South
in the second term but 3 goals in time on to South saw them trail
by 1 point at the main break. A similar situation then
occured in the third quarter with West kicking away before late
goals by South kept them within range. The Bloods then dominated
the final term but were unable to kick away from South and in
the end West hung on to win by 3 points.
It was a high quality game at
Prospect Oval between Glenelg and North. Despite both teams
positions on the ladder the game had many hard body clashes and
some spectacular marks in the end though it was Glenelg who won
the game by 10 points. After the match Glenelg coach Chris
McDermott was very pleased with his sides performance and spoke
highly of 17 year old ruckman Matthew Golding who played a blinder.
With Glenelg winning 2 of their past 3 games things are looking
up for the Bays (especially for next year) while North have now
lost their past 6 games.
The first 2 and a half quarters
between Norwood and Sturt was a hard and tight affair with both
teams unable to get a decisive break. Halfway through the
3rd term some undiciplined play from Norwood though saw the Double
Blues run away. With the scores tied Sturt kicked a goal
then were awarded a free kick before the ball was bounced and
scored another goal. A 50m penalty was then given to Sturt
who then went 18 points in front and never looked back to run
out winners by 39 points.
At Alberton Oval Port showed
it is still in premiership contention with a 12 point win over
Centrals. The first quarter was tight and then during a
blistering 6 minute run during the 2nd term the Doggies kicked
4 goals to give themselves a handy 17 point buffer at half time.
Port then regrouped in the final half and with Brian Benke at
full forward outscored Centrals to run out winners.
