CLARENCE 10.8.68 def BURNIE 7.11.53

Burnie: Davis, Wright, Wilson, Gaby, Jones, Butler, Nash.
GOALS:Clarence: Ricci 4, Donato 2, McCallum, Nichols, Geappen, Arnold.
Burnie: Hill 2, Nash 2, Jones, Gaby, Ling.
REPORTS: A.Hill (Burnie) reported for stiking K.Eyers (Clarence) in the final quarter. Adjourned because of Hill being concussed.
Clarence started Sundays first semi final with an air of confidence against Burnie, but it goes to show looks can be misleading. They started with a burst and showed class and skill and for a game played in the wet, they played like it was dry. They ran the ball through their midfield well and Trent Nichols, and Jarrod Read tore apart their opponents... Read keeping Guard quiet while going about his business of making play, laying tackles and gathering possessions. This came to a standstill, when Guard left the ground after a Read tackle with suspected broken thumb and bruised ribs, and Read followed shortly after with a corked thigh, neither took any further part in the game. The Roos led Burnie by 53 points at half time and I am sure the Clarence supporters started to leave, sure the Roos had it sewn up. But as classy as they were in the first half, they were shocking in the second half, with the Dockers led by Ruckman Brad Davis and Graeme Wright, starting a fightback in the second half, they held Clarence goaless for the entire half while they piled on 6 goals. They fell short by 15 points. The wheels fell of the Roos wagon and with Read out and Nichols slowing down it was left up to the Clarence defenders to hold the side together, they tried, with Nick Davey coming right after his concussion 2 weeks ago, he proved to be a vital link for the Roos. Paul Gaby was great also for the Dockers. Clarence were without 3 big names this week, Allen and Cooney out with Injury and Wally Hulm suspended, the Roos promoted a few young guns and the Westbury boys Nathan and Justin proved to be valuable all over the ground as were the Geappen brothers Matthew who was fantastic through the midfield and the forward line and his brother Brett who had played a full reserves game only the previous day. This game ended Burnie's 99 season and the Roos will now take on the Northern Bombers next week.

GLENORCHY 5.3.33 def NORTHERN BOMBERS 3.8.26
BEST: Glenorchy: Newett, Atkin, C.Ryan, Hemley, Parker, Careless, Green.
Northern Bombers: Trevena, Howard, McLean, Sanders, Hawkins, Curtis, Taylor.
GOALS: Glenorchy: C.Ryan 4, Parker.
Northern Bombers: Aherne, Gibson, Howard.
One man stood high above the rest, as the person who almost single handedly booted his teams way into the grand final. Chris Ryan scored 4 Glenorchys 5 goals and what goals they were.On a day when the weather conditions were disgusting, the ground was boddy, the ball was heavy and wet, still the Magpies proved that their full strength side will be a side to be feared, for the flag in 99. Ryan scored 3 of his goals in the first 15 minutes. This will be the first Grand Final appearance for the Magpies since 1988. They were lead by their ever reliable captain David Newett captain who was best on ground, followed closely by speedy midfielder Ben Atkin who played his game like it was his last. The Magpies played their game with all the class, skill and passion they could muster and it showed as it has for the last few weeks, they have regained confidence in their individual performance and that of them as a unit. The Bombers were not playing badly but their midfielders were chopped apart by the Magpies. Darren Trevena was the best for the Bombers, his pace being used around the ground, Nathan Howard was also a reliable onballer, and Andrew McLean dominated the ruck. The Bombers did start a comeback in the in the third quarter which saw them come within 3 points at three quarter time, but it was not to be. The Bombers will now play Clarence in the Prelim Final on Sunday, the Bombers odds for flag favourites have been shifted .... maybe the Magpies can do it.
