Comments
This weekends round of
matches started off with a game between Sturt and Glenelg on
Friday night at Adelaide Oval. During the game Glenelg won a
lot of the ball but their disposal was hopeless, while Sturt
also squandered some opportunities the Double Blues made it count
when it mattered and ended up winning by 44 points.
Centrals dominated the first
quarter at Elizabeth Oval in the match between Norwood and Centrals
leading by 5 goals at the first break and looked set to win by
a big margin. Norwood regrouped in the second quarter and in
a total form reversal kicked 7 goals to 2 to be in the lead at
the main break. In the last half Norwood continued on their way
and ended up winning their first game of the year by 22 points.
The first 3 quarters were fairly
tight between West and North at Richmond Oval. North though faded
out in the final quarter and let the Bloods kick 9 goals to run
away victors by 55 points. After the match a furious Chris McDermott
(North coach)
stated that his side is on notice and that he "won't accept
noncompetitive, characterless exhibitions".
At the match at Noarlunga Oval
between the Eagles and South it was the 2nd quarter that was
the turning point in the game. The first quarter was fairly even
but in the second quarter the Panthers poor kicking for goal
cost it dearly. During that quarter South kicked 2.6 while while
the Eagles kicked 6.2. At the beginning of the last quarter South
were down by 32 points but staged a comeback and came to within
2 points at the 20 minute mark before the Eagles steadied and
hung on to win. Unconfirmed reports also have that an umpiring
error where a ball kicked through for goal to South hit the goal
umpire and bounced back into play was called play on.
