Comments
Another night game started this
weeks round off, this time between South and Norwood at Adelaide
Oval. Norwood controlled the first half but were unable to break
clear and South were down by only 19 points at half time. In
the third term the Panthers came out all fired up and came to
within 4 points at the 15 minute mark. The Christian O'Brien
(7 goals) show then started as he kicked 3 goals in 3 minutes
to halt the South charge. The final quarter was all Norwood who
ended up winning by 39 points.
The Eagles scored their 4th win
in a row this time over Sturt by 2 points. Down by 26 points
early in the 3rd term the Eagles pressured the Sturt players
and closed to within 8 points at the final break. At the 11 minute
mark of the final term the Eagles finally hit the lead and held
off 2 late charges by Sturt to hang on to win in a thrilling
finish.
It was the Magpies dominance
in the 2nd and 3rd term that set apart Centrals and Port in the
game at Elizabeth Oval. After the match Peter Jonas (Central's
coach) was critical of his sides poor kicking for goal and also
questioned players commitment and toughness. While Ports coach,
Stephen Williams, was relieved that his players came up so well
after only a five day break and managed to beat the Elizabeth
Oval hoodoo.
With Glenelg losing Cornes (Power)
and Golding (Crows) people gave them little chance of beating
West at the first country game of the year at Lameroo. The Glenelg
players though with great skills and attack on the ball proved
them wrong and ended up easily winning. With a brilliant 10 goal
to 2 second term the Tigers swept past the West players and reduced
them to a rabble. Despite numerous changes the Bloods had no
answers to Glenelgs game plan and ended up with a 50 point hiding.
