HOBART DEMONS 5.12.42 defeated
CLARENCE 3.13.31

BEST: HOBART DEMONS: M.Brereton, Veitch, Hall, J.Brereton, Trevena, Devine
CLARENCE: Cole, Davey, Beechey, Anderson

CLARENCE: Anderson, Geappen, Allen

REPORTS nil

The Hobart Demons took advantage of a sleepy Clarence outfit in what was the
first game of the year in the newly named SWL. The leagues first 'twilight'
game saw a 1600 strong crowd turn out to see a hapless Clarence outfit
totally overun by a young and eager Hobart Demons side. In the first quarter
the young Demons rolled their more superior and experienced opponents. Led
by their new coach Darren Trevena, the Demons midfield ran riot. Matthew
Brereton showed the Roos how strong their backline was, forcing the Demons
time after time into the forward line with his penetrating kicks. Aaron
Veitch was also a solid performer. Inaccurate kicking for goals turned out
to be Clarence's downfall kicking only 3 goals from 16 attempts. Attempts by
the Roos players in Beechey, Cole, Davey and Anderson to move play through
the middle failed, with their teammates failing to provide anything to kick
to. Ken Hall had the happy task of booting the Demons winning goal deep into
the final quarter. The Roos were lacking run through the middle with Jarrod
Read forced off early in the first quarter with an ankle injury and the
reigning William Leitch Medallist Matthew Jones being well held by his
various opponents... Next week will see both teams undertake big tasks, with
the Roos clashing with their arch rivals Burnie, and the Demons taking on
the Northern Bombers.

NORTHERN BOMBERS 17.10.112 defeated
GLENORCHY 13.18.96
BEST: BOMBERS: Bolton, McLean, Walker, Taylor, Howard, Matthews, Sharman
GLENORCHY: S.Stevenson, T.Green, Kamaric, Carter, Britten, Curran, Careless
GOALS: BOMBERS: Walker 4, Taylor 3, Sharman 3, Chugg 2, McLean, Matthews,
O'Neill, Millwood, Bolton
GLENORCHY: Kamaric 4, T.Green 3, S.Stevenson 3, Atkin, Carter, Curran
INJURIES: A Burdon (Glenorchy) - Knee
REPORTS: J Cornish (Glenorchy) for striking L.Walker (Bombers)

The Northern Bombers sought, and gained their revenge against the team who
robbed them of a premiership last year. The Bombers beat the Pies by 17
points. Scores were all tied going into the last quarter and the scene was
set for a fierce and highly skilled last quarter, and what a quarter it was.
The Magpies had plenty of opportunities in the final quarter, but were
unable to get the scores on the board when it counted. Players like Andrew
McLean, Nathan Howard and Dale Chugg proved to be the difference, their
experience and cool heads were what won the game. The Bombers were well
served by new recruit Gregg Sharman, who kicked 3 goals. The Speedster
Brendon Bolton provided plenty of run out of the middle with the help of
Howard. Tim Green was among the best of the Magpies and his younger brother
Nick was also in good form, making his senior debut. Shayne Stevenson
dominated the game at ground level and David Kamaric was sensational with 4
goals. The Bombers come up against the Demons next week, and the Magpies
should have an easy win against the Power.

BURNIE 14.20.104 defeated
DEVONPORT 1.4.10
BEST: BURNIE: E.Bourn, Hoare, Heath, Dell, Dick, Jones
DEVONPORT: Cook, Marshall, Langmaid, Johnston, Lowe, Bowman
GOALS: BURNIE: Heath 3, Williams 3, Harnett 2, Pilkington 2, Wright,
E.Bourn, Coulson, Davis
INJURIES: Johnston (Devonport) - cut head
          S.Smith (Devonport) - groin
REPORTS: nil

Mick McGuane got off to a great start to his coaching career at the Dockers
with a 94 point win against a young and inexperienced Devonport Power.
Despite the huge margin the young Power players showed lots of guts and
determination as well as plenty of fighting spirit, as the Dockers went
about their business. There were plenty of fireworks towards the end of the
first quarter when Graham Wright was sent from the field with the blood
rule, to be told he could not come back on because he did not use the
interchange properly when leaving the ground, it was resolved when he was
told he could return to the ground in the second quarter. The Dockers were
well served by Errol Bourn who has returned to the Dockers, he cut through
the Powers midfield and was the biggest play maker of the day. Leigh Heath
capped a good day off with 3 goals and was useful around the forward line.
Cook, Marshall and Clements showed their presence for the Power but the
impact was minimal, with Clements kicking the only goal of the day for the
Power. They will come up against the Glenorchy Magpies next week, and Burnie
will take on the Roos.

NEXT WEEK:
Clarence v Burnie
Northern Bombers v Hobart Demons
Devonport v Glenorchy
