ROUND 4 **************************************************************************** * ON A PERSONAL NOTE Sympathy must go out to the Players and Staff of both the Triabunna and Woodsdale Football Clubs with the tragic death of 2 of their players (and friends of mine) Troy Bird (aged 23) and Jay McConnon (aged 18) who were tragically killed in a car accident during the week. They were both well respected players at their respective clubs. Sympathy also go to their families and friends. The Bombers managed to hold a hapless Glenorchy unit to 0 goals from midway through the second quarter until the last, while themselves booting 7 to seal a well earned victory. They were lead by the usual brigade of Andrew McLean who's ruckwork and follup around the ground was outstanding, he was well assisted by Brendon Bolton at ground level. The difference between the two sides being North's ability to run out the whole game. The Magpies desperately missed on baller Ben Atkins and also Peter Ryan. One good sign for the Pies was Michael Praciak who handled the job of guarding the ever dangerous Shane Stevenson, who was hampered by a quad injury, he held him to 1 goal and proved a promising acquisition. Also helping the Magpies demise was the early injuries they received to Kaye and Chandler. On the brighter side Ben Careless was his usual tough self and provided most opportunities around the ground, earning himself many possessions and the best on ground for the Pies, Brad Curran and Ben Green were both also quite good. Congratulations must go to Dale Chugg who played his 200th game!! Glenorchy will come up against a very efficient Burnie Dockers unit in Round 5 but will be boosted by the return of Atkin and Ryan from suspension The Northern Bombers will face an undermanned Clarence at Bellerive on Sunday **************************************************************************** * TEAMS HOBART DEMONS Backs: Bailey, Jurd, Woods Half Backs: Devine, Cox, James Centre: Williams, M.Brereton, Robinson Half Forwards: Hawkins, Hall, J.Brereton Forwards: Hill, Splann, Dickson Followers: Best, Trevena, Veitch Interchange: Oudshoorn, Stevanovich, Stewart IN: Oudshoorn - SENIOR DEBUT OUT: Scott - omitted for disciplinary reasons CLARENCE Backs: Jamieson, Stirling, Leitch Half Backs: Winter, Davey, Allen Centre: Millar, Donato, Nichols Half Forward: Read, Hulm, Jones Forward: Anderson, J.Westbury, Thurley Followers: Beaumont, M.Geappen, B.Geappen Interchange: Probert, Beechey, McVilly IN: Donato Beechey - returning from suspension Stirling OUT: Cole - knee Cooney - serving one weeks suspension McCallum - serving one weeks suspension **************************************************************************** * RESULTS CLARENCE 21.13.139 defeated HOBART DEMONS 7.8.50 BEST CLARENCE: Millar, Donato, B.Geappen, M.Geappen, Allen, Winter, Anderson, Beaumont HOBART DEMONS: M.Brereton, Woods, Best, Splann GOALS CLARENCE: Allen 5, Donato 4, Anderson 2, Thurley 2, Millar, Beechey, Beaumont, Probert, Davey, Read, Leitch, Winter HOBART DEMONS: Hill 2, Woods, Hall, Hawkins, Williams, James INJURIES: CLARENCE: Millar - ankle Nichols - ankle Read - ankle Probert - shoulder Jones - cut eye HOBART DEMONS: Devine - cut head REPORTS: nil ROUND UP ROOS HEAR THE WAKEUP CALL AND DESTROY THE DEMONS The Demons beat the Roos in round 1 , but if there is one thing the Roos hate it is to be called hopeless, so they came out ready to stamp their mark on the game and stamp they did. The Roos forwards came out firing after the first siren and some of the older players provided great goal kicking power. Scott Allen booted 5 and the comeback kid David Donato booted 4 in his first game for the year. But the real difference between the two teams proved to be the midfield. Craig Millar was brilliant around the ground, creating play and tackling hard, he was well served by his co midfielder in Matthew and Brett Geappen and Todd Anderson. Jarrod Read provided the highlight of the day by kicking a freaky goal in the 3rd quarter. The Roos were struck down by a lot of injuries namely Nichols, Probert, who were both unable to take the field after half time. For the Demons Matthew Brereton was outstanding, his ruck work was great and he overshadowed the Roo Rookie in Charles Beaumont. Unfortunately for the Demons their major play maker Darren Trevena was well guarded by Todd Anderson and he did not see as much of the ball as the Demons would have liked. Steven Woods was great on the ball for the Demons as was Andrew Best in defense. The depleted Roos without the names of Cole, Cullen, Finch, Nichols, Probert will be taking on the merciless Northern Bombers on Sunday in the game of the Round and the Demons will be at home to the Power. **************************************************************************** * TEAMS BURNIE Backs: Brown, Dell, M.Bourn Half Backs: Nash, Wooldridge, Hoare Centre: Wright, Butler, Heath Half Forward: Harnett, Williams, Wilson Forward: Gounas, Pilkington, Coulson Followers: Davis, Bester, Dick Interchange: Jones, Shackleton, Barnes IN: nil OUT: nil DEVONPORT Backs: Astell, B.Smith, Flannery Half Backs: Duggan, Taylor, Bowman Centre: Richardson, S.Smith, Marshall Half Forward: Cook, Langmaid, Fagan Forwards: Philpott, Clements, Connelly Followers: Scolyer, Johnston, Lowe Interchange: Masters, Allen, Woodcock, Lovett, McPherson IN: nil OUT: nil **************************************************************************** * RESULTS BURNIE: 22.17.149 defeated DEVONPORT: 4.12.36 BEST BURNIE: Butler, Dell, Wright, Wilson, Harnett, Coulson DEVONPORT: Langmaid, Johnson, Lowe, Clements GOALS BURNIE: Porter 4, Harnett 4, Coulson 3, Wright 2, Williams 2, Bester, Shackleton, Jones, Heath, Davis DEVONPORT: Clements, Cook, Bowman, Astell INJURIES: BURNIE: nil DEVONPORT: Clements - knee Smith - groin REPORTS: nil ROUND UP DOCKERS GO THROUGH THE FORMALITIES TO DEMOLISH THE POWER The Burnie Dockers made it 2-0 in the North West Coast Derby this week. They demolished the Power team by 113 points. The Dockers showed poise and class as they blitzed the Power backline continually with goals. For Burnie their best players were Butler who was fantastic through the midfield and was by far the best upon the field for the Dockers, he was well helped along by Dell, Graeme Wright whose power through the midfields was great. Porter and Harnett both chipped in with 4 goals apiece and Coulson with 3. Devonport were hit hard with injuries to both Clements and Smith which slowed down any progress they appeared to be making. It didn't stop Clements being best on field for the Power with some classy stuff on the forward line along with Cook, Bowman and Astell who made sure the Power were not beaten as badly as last time the two teams met. Burnie will go on to meet a reinforced Magpie lineup this week. And the Power will be firing to take on the Hobart Demons **************************************************************************** * NEXT WEEK: Saturday HOBART DEMONS v DEVONPORT (N.Hobart) GLENORCHY v BURNIE (KGV) Sunday CLARENCE v NORTHERN BOMBERS (Bellerive) NOTE: Game changed to Sunday 7th (game of the round) **************************************************************************** * LADDER NORTHERN BOMBERS 16 BURNIE 12 CLARENCE 12 GLENORCHY 4 HOBART DEMONS 4 DEVONPORT - **************************************************************************** * LEADING GOAL KICKERS Allen (Clarence) 15 Williams (Burnie) 14 Taylor (Bombers) 10 Kamaric (Glenorchy) 9 Aherne (Bombers) 9 Cottam (Bombers) 7 Foale (Glenorchy) 7 S.Stevenson (Glenorchy) 7 Chugg (Bombers) 7 **************************************************************************** * Under 21's BURNIE DOCKERS 19.10.128 defeated DEVONPORT 8.5.53 CLARENCE 17.4.106 defeated HOBART DEMONS 6.15.51 NORTHERN BOMBERS 14.11.95 defeated GLENORCHY 4.10.34 LADDER: CLARENCE 16 NORTHERN BOMBERS 16 BURNIE DOCKERS 8 GLENORCHY 4 HOBART DEMONS 4 DEVONPORT - **************************************************************************** * Under 18's BURNIE DOCKERS (A) 14.11.93 defeated DEVONPORT (A) 3.9.27 GLENORCHY (A) 9.8.62 defeated NORTHERN BOMBERS (A) 4.3.27 CLARENCE (A) 9.13.67 defeated HOBART DEMONS (A) 8.7.55 CLARENCE (B) 13.8.86 defeated HOBART DEMONS (B) 7.2.44 **************************************************************************** * TAC CUP DANDENONG STINGRAYS 11.10.76 defeated TASSIE MARINERS 9.12.66 GEELONG FALCONS 17.14.116 defeated NORTHERN TERRITORY 8.7.55 NORTH BALLARAT REBELS 14.9.93 defeated QUEENSLAND 8.9.57 OAKLEIGH CHARGERS 6.8.44 defeated WESTERN JETS 4.13.37 **************************************************************************** * OTHER LEAGUE RESULTS SFL BRIGHTON 17.15.117 defeated LINDISFARNE 5.5.35 HOBART 19.11.125 defeated CLAREMONT 8.6.54 KERMANDIE 19.6.120 defeated CHANNEL 11.12.78 HUONVILLE 15.9.99 defeated CYGNET 8.9.57 NEW NORFOLK 19.19.133 defeated LAUDERDALE 9.7.61 KINGSTON 15.7.97 defeated SORELL 14.10.94 PENINSULA PREMAYDENA 15.14.104 defeated PORT ARTHUR 12.15.87 NUBEENA 13.9.87 defeated EAGLEHAWK NECK 10.21.81 OLD SCHOLARS HUTCHINS 11.18.84 defeated UNIVERSITY 7.6.48 ST VIRGIL'S 14.18.102 defeated FRIENDS 9.20.74 DOSA 17.14.116 defeated OHA 14.17.101 ODFA KEMPTON 16.15.111 defeated WOODSDALE 9.8.62 MT PLEASANT 11.13.79 defeated BOTHWELL 8.10.58 OATLANDS 19.17.131 defeated ROSS 6.4.40 TASMAN DODGES FERRY 41.30.276 defeated CAMBRIDGE 0.1.1 RICHMOND 12.8.80 defeated TRIABUNNA 9.10.64 NTFL ULVERSTONE 24.11.155 defeated SMITHTON 6.8.44 LAUNCESTON 18.17.125 defeated EAST DEVONPORT 7.7.49 LATROBE 20.19.139 defeated WYNYARD 10.19.79 SOUTH 16.25.121 defeated DELORAINE 12.14.86 **************************************************************************** * FINAL SIREN Till next Week, get out there and support your club and the league, lets get some butts on seats this year and let the doubters know, that Tasmanian Football is still alive!!! **************************************************************************** * Karen kys@optusnet.com.au |
