It lead to a 63 point drubbing!!. The first quarter saw the Bombers leading by a small margin, due to inaccurate kicking on their part. At the beginning of the second quarter it was obvious that the Roos were not about to let them have any more chances, and Clarence Coach Grant Fagan made the change that determined the outcome of the game. He bought on first-timer Ian Callinan who was on a break from Mariners duty. He showed pure class, skill, and was ready to put his body on the line, and he did on numerous occasions causing turnovers for the Roos while he proceeded to boot three goals of his own. It was a trend that the younger Roos followed, With Stuart Beechey booting four goals and Brett Geappen playing a fantastic game through the midfield earning himself best afield for the Roos in only his 4th senior game, also youngsters in Matthew Jamieson and Charles Beaumont were fabulous. Beaumont made the most of his opportunity against the Bomber bigman Andrew McLean, and beat the best ruckman in the competition on most occasions, he went through three opponents during the game while the Bombers fought to stop the midfield tearing them apart. Praciak was again in great for the Bombers and was rock solid in defense, while Chugg, Cottam, and Whitehead were great in their roles. Roo Todd Anderson was well tagged for the day as was Read for the first half, before he left the field during the last quarter with ankle soreness which has been plaguing his season. Goalsneak Scott Allen booted four goals, and the Roos now seem in better form than the beginning of their season and look to be a real danger for the flag, they take on Devonport next week, which almost assures them top spot on the ladder, while the Northern Bombers take on Burnie in the clash of the round. ********************************************************************** TEAMS GLENORCHY Backs: Fooks, Reid, Rogers Half Backs: Foale, P.Ryan, Richter Centre: N.Green, Chandler, T.Stevenson Half Forwards: Glenn, Carter, Britten Forwards: Curran, Kamaric, T.Green Followers: C.Ryan, Careless, Atkin Interchange: Longman, McGee, Hepburn IN: Atkin - returning from suspension P.Ryan - returning from suspension Richter - mariner OUT: S.Stevenson - thigh injury Kaye - fractured finger Gardner - omitted BURNIE Backs: Brown, Dell, Nash Half Backs: Heath, Wooldridge, Wright Centre: Harnett, Hoare, Coulson Half Forward: McMichael, Williams, Shackleton Forward: Porter, M.Bourn, E.Bourn Followers: Davis, Butler, Bester Interchange: Barnes, Jones, Gounas IN: E.Bourn - returning from suspension McMichael - SENIOR DEBUT OUT: Dick - ill Wilson - injured ********************************************************************** RESULTS BURNIE: 13.12.90 defeated GLENORCHY: 9.12.66 BEST BURNIE: Wright, Butler, Barnes, Heath, E.Bourn, Nash, Wooldridge GLENORCHY: Britten, C.Ryan, Atkin, Green, T.Stevenson, Curran GOALS BURNIE: Wright 3, Rist 3, Bester 2, Heath 2, Shackleton 2, McMichael GLENORCHY: C.Ryan 4, P.Ryan 2, Atkin, Kamaric, Chandler INJURIES BURNIE: Williams - broken fingers GLENORCHY: nil REPORTS: nil ROUND UP BURNIE TAKE TOP SPOT OVER LACKLUSTER MAGPIES Glenorchy made a quick exit from the top 4 on the ladder this week with a 24 point loss to the Burnie Dockers. The day didn't start out the way the Burnie Dockers would have liked with the late withdrawal of star Brad Davis because of illness and early into the first quarter they lost Forward Grant Williams with two broken fingers, it looked as if their day was over before it had begun. But alas, the booted 5 goals in the first quarter to Glenorchys one and they were off and running. They headed into the halftime break with a 20 point break. They played very professional football, used the ball extremely well and hit the target every time. Graeme Wright was the major instigator in the midfield creating play and booting 3 goals as did Michael Rist. Badman Errol Bourn was back to his very best and was in and under at every chance. Arrin Butler is getting back to his form of last season and was great on the ball. For the Magpies there were good signs Jason Britten has continued on his merry way racking up possessions as was Ben Atkin who returned from a weeks suspension. Chris Ryan chipped in with 4 valuable goals and Peter Ryan with another 2. But in the end the workhorse way the Dockers went about winning was the difference, they will take on the Northern Bombers next week, and the Magpies will take on the Demons in hope of making their way back into the top 4. ********************************************************************** TEAMS HOBART DEMONS Backs: Cox, Splann, A.Cox Half Backs: Veitch, M.Brereton, Bailey Centre: James, J.Brereton, Hill Half Forward: Hall, Jurd, Trevena Forward: Hawkins, Robinson, Woods Followers: Best, Williams, Devine Interchange: Bone, A.Cox, Oudshoorn IN: Bone A.Cox - mariner Joyce - mariner OUT: Dickson - omitted Stewart - omitted Stevanovich - unavailable DEVONPORT Backs: Allen, Scolyer, T.Marshall Half Backs: Lowe, Taylor, Bowman Centre: Richardson, S.Smith, Duggan Half Forward: Cook, Astell, Flannery Forwards: McIvor, McPherson, Wilkinson Followers: Langmaid, Johnson, Holland Interchange: Connelly, Fagan, Abbott IN: T.Marshall - mariner Holland - mariner McIvor - mariner Abbott Duggan OUT: Clements - back injury Woodcock - omitted Masters - omitted Marshall - omitted Phillpott - omitted ********************************************************************** RESULTS HOBART DEMONS: 23.10.148 defeated DEVONPORT: 8.9.57 BEST HOBART DEMONS: Williams, Devine, J.Brereton, Woods, Cox, Joyce DEVONPORT: Langmaid, Lowe, Astell, Allen, Wilkinson, Flannery GOALS HOBART DEMONS: Devine 8, Joyce 4, Woods 4, Hill 2, James, Hall, Hawkins, Williams, Cox DEVONPORT: Abbott 2, Holland, Johnson, Richardson, McIver, Wilkinson INJURIES HOBART DEMONS: nil DEVONPORT: S.Smith - groin REPORTS: nil ROUND UP HOBART DEMONS ASSERT THEIR AUTHORITY The Hobart Demons pushed their way into the top 4 teams this week with a 91 point thrashing of the Devonport Power team. The Demon of the day was veteran forward Robert Devine who booted 8 goals for the game, 4 of which came in a rush in the final quarter. Also tall Mariner Chris Joyce managed 3 in the 3rd. Justin Brereton was at his devastating best around the ground. For the Power Justin Langmaid was unstoppable around the ground and no matter how many changes the Demons made they could not curb the run of this man. Demon midfielders Steve Woods and Brent Williams were the force across the center which drove the Demons forward on most occasions and their conversion ate was much better than previous weeks. Andrew Cox was also good in the backline. The Demons will come up gains the Magpies in a fight to stay in the top 4 next week and the Power will come up against a rampaging Roos at home. ********************************************************************** NEXT WEEK: Saturday: Devonport v Clarence (Devonport) Glenorchy v Hobart Demons (KGV) Sunday: Burnie v Northern Bombers (West Park) GAME OF THE ROUND!!! ********************************************************************** LADDER BURNIE 16 CLARENCE 16 NORTHERN BOMBERS 16 HOBART DEMONS 8 GLENORCHY 4 DEVONPORT - ********************************************************************** LEADING GOAL KICKERS Allen (Clarence) 19 Williams (Burnie) 12 Taylor (Bombers) 10 Aherne (Bombers) 10 Kamaric (Glenorchy) 9 Harnett (Burnie) 9 Devine (Demons) 9 Chugg (Bombers) 9 C.Ryan (Glenorchy) 8 Woods (Demons) 8 Cottam (Bombers) 8 Foale (Glenorchy) 7 S.Stevenson (Glenorchy) 7 Beechey (Clarence) 7 Bolton (Bombers) 7 ********************************************************************** Under 21's NORTHERN BOMBERS 10.11.71 defeated CLARENCE 7.10.52 GLENORCHY 13.14.92 defeated BURNIE DOCKERS 6.11.47 HOBART DEMONS 15.17.107 defeated DEVONPORT 6.6.42 LADDER: NORTHERN BOMBERS 20 CLARENCE 16 BURNIE DOCKERS 8 GLENORCHY 8 HOBART DEMONS 8 DEVONPORT - ********************************************************************** Under 18's NORTHERN BOMBERS (B) 6.9.45 defeated CLARENCE (B) 2.1.13 CLARENCE (A) 7.4.46 defeated NORTHERN BOMBERS (A) 2.9.21 GLENORCHY (A) 11.9.75 defeated BURNIE DOCKERS (A) 5.13.43 HOBART DEMONS (A) 15.9.99 defeated DEVONPORT (A) 6.0.36 HOBART DEMONS (B) 12.7.79 defeated BURNIE (B) 4.4.28 ********************************************************************** OTHER LEAGUE RESULTS SFL CLAREMONT 19.12.126 defeated CHANNEL 5.9.39 BRIGHTON 22.8.140 DEFEATED HUONVILLE LIONS 6.12.48 LAUDERDALE 16.16.112 defeated LINDISFARNE 6.9.45 NEW NORFOLK 18.16.124 defeated SORELL 5.9.39 KERMANDIE 14.11.95 defeated CYGNET 8.12.60 HOBART 13.17.95 defeated KINGSTON 12.9.81 PENINSULA EAGLEHAWK NECK 12.12.84 defeated PORT ARTHUR 9.16.69 NUBEENA 22.11.143 defeated PREMAYDENA 6.5.41 OLD SCHOLARS OHA 14.13.97 defeated UNIVERSITY 10.9.69 HUTCHINS 21.18.144 defeated FRIENDS 2.5.17 DOSA 25.5.155 defeated ST VIRGILS 10.15.75 ODFA BOTHWELL 24.15.159 defeated TUNNACK 9.7.61 OATLANDS 11.13.79 defeated WOODSDALE 6.9.45 KEMPTON defeated ROSS on forfeit TASMAN RICHMOND 15.8.98 defeated DODGES FERRY 13.6.84 SWANSEA 18.9.117 defeated TRIABUNNA 9.9.63 NTFL ULVERSTONE 17.18.120 defeated LAUNCESTON 9.10.64 SOUTH LAUNCESTON 34.21.225 defeated SMITHTON 13.6.84 PENGUIN 11.8.74 defeated EAST DEVONPORT 6.6.42 DELORAINE 16.14.110 defeated WYNYARD 13.6.84 ********************************************************************** FINAL SIREN Till next Week, get out there and support your club and the league, lets get some butts on seats this year and let the doubters know, that Tasmanian Football is still alive!!! ********************************************************************** |
