ROUND UP

BOMBERS ROCK THE BURNIE DOCKERS

An impassable Bomber backline was the fate of the Burnie Dockers in this
weeks game of the round. The Dockers were held to just 2 goals in the second
quarter while kicking with the breeze. Michael Praciak was a forceful
defender for the Bombers and with his mates Muir, Whitehead and O'Keefe kept
the Dockers to just 3 goals in the first quarter and then 2 in the second.
Andrew McLean was back to his best after being well beaten by Clarence's
Beaumont last week and his turnover out of the middle to the in-form Anthony
Taylor who booted 2 in a best on field performance proved crucial to the
Dockers demise, also when McLean was moved to the backline in the second
quarter when Burnie were at their most dangerous (kicking into the wind) he
punched the ball and took many overhead grabs to blow out the dying candle
of the Dockers goal opportunities. Bomber tagger Brendon Bolton managed to
keep the ever present Graham Wright's touches to a minimum. For the Dockers
Gounas was best on ground and Errol Bourn was a crucial figure through the
midfield especially during the 4 goals last quarter for the Dockers.

Next week will be the showdown of the year between Clarence and the Northern
Bombers who will be fighting for top position on the ladder, while the
Dockers will have to face the Hobart Demons

ROUND UP

PIES GIVE THE TOP FOUR A SHAKEUP

Glenorchy marched it's way back into the SWL top four this week with a 53
point win over a sloppy Hobart Demons this week. The Magpies broke their 4
game losing streak with superb ball skills and good usage of the ball,
unfortunately for the Demons the same can't be said about them. The game
was for the taking at 1/4 time with the Magpies leading by only 2 points,
and it was up to each team to assert their dominance in the next quarter and
the Magpies proved they wanted it most. Ben Atkin led by example and ran
riot through the midfield, weaving his way through and creating goals while
kicking 4 for himself. Chris and Peter Ryan both booted a bag full and the
Magpies were of an running. Todd Stevenson was also great in the midfield as
was Nathan Foale. For the Demons the better players were Jeremy Brereton who
is always doing his best, and he did this week also earning himself another
best afield performance. Aaron Veitch did great things in the backline and
held them together well. Andrew Best did exactly that as the Demons ruckman.

The Demons will take on the Burnie Dockers this week and the Magpies will
take on Devonport.

ROUND UP

DEPLETED ROOS PULL THE PLUG ON THE POWER

A Roo side without a lot of their star senior players blitzed the Power this
week beating them by 77 points. The main instigator was tough back man
Darren Winter who assumed a role on the wing this week, his drive into the
forward line proved effective especially for the Goalsneak Scott Allen who
booted 6 goals for the day and Justin Westbury who booted 4. Todd Anderson
and Gavin Cooney provided plenty of run in the middle making up for the lack
of pace without Read, Geappen and Nichols. The Roos booted 8 of their 17
goals in the first quarter to set up their win. The second quarter saw the
Devonport side more fired up and with the change from Matthew Langmaid from
ruck to forward booting 3 goals proved effective. The backline for the Power
improved as the day went on and Andrew Johnson, Paul Duggan and Jamie
Richardson did their best to stem the flow of Roos goals. Roo midfielder
Matthew Jones was back to his best on the backline and proved the brick wall
which the Power failed to get through.

The Roos will take on the Northern Bombers in the clash of the round at York
park next week, and the Power will be up against the Glenorchy side.
