ROUND UP

BIG CROWD WATCH THE BOMBERS DOWN THE ROOS

The biggest crowd of the SWL season watched arch rivals Clarence and the
Northern Bombers go head to head in this weeks clash of the round.
Undisciplined play saw the Roos downed by 13 points. Clarence suffered the
late withdrawal of paceman Jarrod Read and back man David Donato before the
game, and seemed rattled from the first bounce. The Bombers dominated the
midfield with Brendon Bolton and Chris Jones running amok, but the one
player who posed the greatest problem was Brad Cottam who proved the
difference for the Bombers. Matthew Jones was a great force for the Roos
gathering a mighty 40 possessions along with young forward Cameron Thurley
and veteran Trent Nichols who both tried their hearts out but to no avail.
Roo Rookie Charles Beaumont was all over the Bomber Ruckman Andrew McLean
for the first half of the game but he got his revenge in the second half by
making a great comeback. The Bombers ball skills were superior to the Roos
and it proved costly.

Clarence will face the Demons next week... and the Northern Bombers will
come up against last years Premiers Glenorchy.

ROUND UP

INJURY CLOUD SOURS GLENORCHY WIN

The Glenorchy Magpies may have paid the ultimate price during their 57 win
against the Devonport Power. Dangerous midfielder Ben Careless left the
field on a stretcher during the second quarter with what is thought to be a
knee injury which may see him sidelined for the rest of the season. The
Power didn't really get close to the Magpies, the Pies did not help
themselves, again kicking inaccurately, they booted 20 points this week. The
Power came out with a lot of enthusiasm and led into the first break, but
from there on it was all one way traffic. Jason Britten was again best on
ground, causing big problems for his opponents having a day out in the
midfield. Ben Atkin was Brittens right hand man and they proved the
combination that won the game for the Magpies. Josh Holland was outstanding
for the Power, his efforts to get the ball, showing that they were still
hungry for a win. Scolyer and Phillpott also tried their hearts out for the
Power but to no avail.

Next week the Power will have a bye and Glenorchy will face the undefeated
Northern Bombers

ROUND UP

FANTASTIC TEAM EFFORT SINKS DOCKERS

The Hobart Demons showed they are certainly serious finals contenders this
week when they downed a strong Burnie Dockers outfit in a 48 point victory
this week. The Demons received 100% from each and every one of the players
on the ground, their marking, and usage of the ball made sure they ran out
winners. Ken Hall proved best on ground with a day out on the half back
line, the continual driving force for the Demons, forcing them into the
forward line on every occasion. It was hard to pick out individual players
as stars when it was such as even team effort but as usual Jeremy Brereton
made his prescience felt, and is growing in stature each week and becoming a
feared opponent to opposition teams. Brock Ackerley who was playing for the
D's while on a break from the Tassie Mariners proved a great choice, his
drive through the midfield and ground level work was second to none. Tom
James was fantastic in tagging the Dockers danger man Graham Wright, and
Garry Splann played a game as if his place in the side was on the line. For
the Dockers Errol Bourn was their only 4 quarter contributor and proved a
problem throughout the midfield and forward line all day. Brad Davis was
well beaten by the Demons Andrew Best. Harnett, Dell and Bester were also
playing well around the ground but were not consistent enough to prove to
much of a problem for their opponents.

Next Week the Demons will take on Clarence at Bellerive while the Dockers
will have a bye.
