The Dockers led from the first bounce and that was the way it stayed for the whole day. At 1/4 time the Dockers led the Roos by 26 points and by the time play resumed the game was more a contest of mud wrestling with rain bucketing down for the remainder of play. Docker Errol Bourn was the main destroyer for the Burnie helped well by Arrin Butler, but all in all it was a fine team display of desperation, hard play and pressure. The Clarence players seemed to be far from each competition and by the last quarter seemed more worried about the long trip home than making this game worthwhile. Jason Ling booted two of the first three goals for the Dockers which is a fine return as he only returned to the Burnie fray three weeks ago. Vaughan Dell put in another fine performance at full back, limiting his opponents to few goals. Matthew Jones and Matthew Geappen were the only real standouts for the Clarence Roos side both getting plenty of the football, and creating a lot of opportunities up forward but their teammates were unable to convert. Players from both these sides should feature heavily with teams to be announced for the state side for next weeks state clash. **************************************************************************** TEAMS NORTHERN BOMBERS Backs: Mansell, Faull, O'Keefe Half Backs: Mathews, Muir, Headland Centre: Praciak, Howard, Wager Half Forwards: Cottam, Chugg, O'Neill Forwards: Bolton, Aherne, Todman Followers: McLean, Curtis, Taylor Interchange: J.French, S.French, Cotton IN: Cottam Aherne - returning after time of for personal loss OUT: Jones - omitted Wight - omitted DEVONPORT POWER Backs: Lovett, Taylor, Masters Half Backs: Bowman, Richardson, McPherson Centre: A.Smith, Johnston, Wilkinson Half Forward: Holland, Scolyer, Abbott Forward: Wells, Astell, Duggan Followers: Langmaid, Flannery, Lowe Interchange: Cook, Simmons, Haley IN: Wells Coot McPherson Lovatt OUT: Phillpott - omitted Woodcock - omitted Fagan - omitted Allen - omitted **************************************************************************** RESULTS NORTHERN BOMBERS 18.15.123 defeated DEVONPORT POWER 10.7.67 BEST NORTHERN BOMBERS Curtis, J.French, Chugg, Headland, Bottam, Taylor DEVONPORT POWER Scolyer, McPherson, Flannery, Taylor, Richardson, Duggan GOALS NORTHERN BOMBERS J.French 4, Taylor 2, O'Neill 2, McLean 2, Chugg 2, Curtis Wager, Cotton, Mansell, Cottam, Headland DEVONPORT POWER Masters 2, Langmaid 2, Taylor, Johnston, Flannery, Wilkinson, Wells, Simmons INJURIES NORTHERN BOMBERS Todman - corked thigh DEVONPORT POWER Richardson - calf injury and concussion Scolyer - broken hand Abbott - knee REPORTS NORTHERN BOMBERS Howard was reported for striking Taylor dismissed ROUND UP POWER HAPPY EVEN WITH A LOSS What was supposed to be one of the highest loss margains for the year when the Northern Bombers took on the Power this week turned out to be a glimmer of hope for the Devonport side. Sure they lost the game but coming up against the unbeaten Bombers most would've expected them to have a loss of 10 or 15 goals. The lost by 8. There were pleasing signs for the Power with the young team showing plenty of toughness and vigor during the game. Ben Scolyer was the best of the Powers players running rampant through the midfield and he was well helped by McPherson, Duggan and Matthew Langmaid. But for the raging Bombers their players were more experienced, harder at the ball and more worthy of their win. Kim Curtis was again a force to be reckoned with, and Jason French chipped in with a lazy 4 goals for the day. A melee during the third quarter involving as many as 20 players saw Nathan Howard reported for striking but he was cleared of the charge. **************************************************************************** TEAMS GLENORCHY Backs: Kaye, Reid, Rogers Half Backs: Foale, Gardner, S.Stevenson Centre: Glenn, Britten, Wyllie Half Forward: McGee, Carter, Kamaric Forwards: Cornish, Curran, Longman Followers: P.Ryan, Free, Atkin Interchange: Ling, Capaldi, Fooks IN: Wylie Capaldi Ling OUT: T.Green - finger injury T.Stevenson - neck injury C.Ryan - omitted HOBART DEMONS Backs: Bailey, Splann, Veitch Half Backs: Bracken, M.Brereton, Cox Centre: Williams, J.Brereton, Hall Half Forwards: Hill, Robinson, Hawkins Forwards: Devine, Jurd, Woods Followers: Best, James, Scott Interchange: Trevena, Boucher, Ackerley IN: Trevena - returning from an ankle injury Ackerley - returning from Mariners duty OUT: Hutt - ankle injury Gargan - omitted **************************************************************************** RESULTS HOBART DEMONS 15.11.101 defeated GLENORCHY 14.7.91 BEST HOBART DEMONS Williams, Best, Devine, Woods, James, Splann, Hawkins GLENORCHY S.Stevenson, Carter, Free, Wylie, Capaldi, Atkin GOALS HOBART DEMONS Devine 6, Woods 2, Scott 2, Robinson, Williams, Hawkins James, Ackerley GLENORCHY Free 5, Wylie 3, Atkin, Foale, Curran, S.Stevenson, Kamaric McGee INJURIES HOBART DEMONS Bracken - cut head Bailey - knee GLENORCHY P.Ryan - ankle Kamaric - ribs Fooks - knee REPORTS nil ROUND UP HOBART DEMONS HOLD ONTO A PLACE IN THE 4 Just when you think the Demons are on their way to the grave they rise up and surprise you again. This week was no exception. With sheer grit and determination the team rectified a 14 point deficit at three quarter time to kick 7 goals and lead by 29 points in a matter of 13 minutes. The reigning premiers Glenorchy were completely taken by surprise and staged a comeback coming within 10 points of the Demons but were unable to win. Andrew Best proved the turning point in the last quarter in the middle, winning every tap and getting the ball to the running midfielders of Williams and Woods, Williams also managed to keep William Leitch medallist Ben Atkin quiet during the final quarter too. Aaron Free was good for the Magpies with 5 goals for the day. For the Demons also in great form were Tom James, Nigel Scott and Daniel Hawkins who also stood up in that final winning quarter. **************************************************************************** NEXT WEEK: SOUTH v NORTH (York Park) **************************************************************************** LADDER NORTHERN BOMBERS 32 CLARENCE 24 BURNIE 20 HOBART DEMONS 16 GLENORCHY 12 DEVONPORT 0 **************************************************************************** LEADING GOAL KICKERS ALLEN (Clarence) 31 DEVINE (Demons) 26 CHUGG (Bombers) 19 WILLIAMS (Burnie) 17 TAYLOR (Bombers) 17 HARNETT (Dockers) 15 C.RYAN (Glenorchy) 14 COTTAM (Bombers) 14 AHERNE (Bombers) 13 ATKIN (Glenorchy) 12 KAMARIC (Glenorchy) 12 WOODS (Demons) 12 **************************************************************************** Under 21's GLENORCHY 16.13.109 defeated HOBART DEMONS 6.8.44 NORTHERN BOMBERS 15.22.112 defeated DEVONPORT POWER 3.4.22 BURNIE DOCKERS 15.9.99 defeated CLARENCE 12.10.82 LADDER: NORTHERN BOMBERS 36 CLARENCE 24 BURNIE DOCKERS 16 GLENORCHY 16 HOBART DEMONS 8 DEVONPORT 4 **************************************************************************** Under 18's GLENORCHY (A) 11.12.78 defeated HOBART DEMONS (A) 5.1.31 NORTHERN BOMBERS (A) 7.7.49 defeated DEVONPORT POWER 5.6.36 CLARENCE (B) 5.10.40 defeated BURNIE DOCKERS (B) 5.7.37 BURNIE DOCKERS (A) 8.7.55 defeated CLARENCE (A) 5.4.34 **************************************************************************** OTHER LEAGUE RESULTS SFL BRIGHTON 14.11.95 defeated LAUDERDALE 6.4.40 HOBART 18.14.122 defeated HUONVILLE LIONS 9.8.62 KERMANIDE 31.12.207 defeated LINDISFARNE 5.4.34 CHANNEL 13.14.92 defeated KINGSTON 10.12.72 NEW NORFOLK 12.11.83 defeated CLAREMONT 7.6.48 CYGNET 19.15.129 defeated SORELL 7.8.50 PENINSULA PORT ARTHUR 10.12.72 defeated NUBEENA 9.14.68 ODFA OATLANDS 17.21.123 defeated TUNNACK 6.7.43 Mt.
