The Bombers were unfortunate with injuries as the stretcher appeared three times taking their best three players from the field with concussion. Marcus Bourn's injury being the worst, a sickening reminder of that fateful day at Bellerive when David Wood was injured, fortunately after being taken to hospital for precautionary x-rays Bourn was cleared of any serious damage. The Bombers had 10 goals kickers in a fine performance. Andrew McLean was outstanding in the ruck against Brad Davis and was also useful around the ground. Kim Curtis and Brendon Bolton were their usual damaging selves as they sent the ball forward often. For the Dockers the story was sad, with their best contributors Nathan Howard, Matthew Muir and debutant Gene Clark being the best they could muster, but against such quality opposition they didn't stand a chance, they lacked ferocity and hardness at the ball, skills which the Bombers are renowned for. **************************************************************************** TEAMS DEVONPORT POWER Backs: Cook, McPherson, Masters Half Backs: Bowman, Richardson, Glover Centre: Astell, Febey, Duggan Half Forwards: Flannery, Wells, Philpott Forwards: S.Smith, Scolyer, Taylor Followers: Langmaid, Lowe, Holland Interchange: A.Smith, Lovatt, McIvor IN: S.Smith - returning from injury McIvor Febey Glover Philpott OUT: Johnston - injured Haley - injured Wilkinson - unavailable Abbott - omitted Simmons - omitted HOBART DEMONS Backs: Rigby, Jurd, B.Scott Half Backs: Veitch, Splann, Hall Centre: Williams, J.Brereton, James Half Forward: Bracken, M.Brereton, Dickson Forward: Devine, Robertson, Hawkins Followers: Best, Trevena, Woods Interchange: Hill, Mills, Boucher IN: Mills Rigby Dickson Scott OUT: N.Scott - calf injury Bailey - knee injury Cox - leg injury Ackerley - Tassie Mariners duty **************************************************************************** RESULTS HOBART DEMONS 22.13.145 defeated DEVONPORT POWER 8.10.58 BEST HOBART DEMONS Hawkins, Devine, Williams, M.Brereton, J.Brereton, Hill, Woods DEVONPORT POWER Langmaid, Holland, McPherson, Wells, Richardson, McIvor GOALS HOBART DEMONS Devine 8, Dickson 3, Hill 3, Hawkins 2, Woods 2, Jurd, J.Brereton, Boutcher DEVONPORT POWER Lowe, Taylor, Wells, Richardson, Duggan, Lovatt, Glover, Holland INJURIES nil REPORTS DEVONPORT Febey reported for striking Mills suspended for 1 match ROUND UP GOALSNEAK RUNS RAMPANT FOR DEMONS Robert Devine helped his Hobart Demons side to a huge win over the Devonport Power this week, when he booted 8 goals to help boost the percentage and keep the Demons in the top 4. Daniel Hawkins was by far the best of the Demons on the ground, completely dominating the wing, while the ever busy Brereton brothers were hard at it in the ruck and the midfield. Mark Hill, Steven Woods and Brent Williams proved their worth as they dominated the middle of the ground and driving the ball forward in the general Devine direction. Finding four quarter players for the Power is a though job but the player with the most impact over the game was Captain Matthew Langmaid, and as usual he proved such a classy player and one wonders if he is able to play badly. and Leigh Febey made stamped his name on Statewide football in his first game, actually the only place it was stamped was into the umpires note book with a 1 match suspension for striking, he was reported for striking Ollie Mills who is a first gamer for the Demons!! **************************************************************************** TEAMS CLARENCE Backs: McCallum, Cole, Ransley Half Backs: Winter, Davey, Jamieson Centre: Cooney, Jones, Read Half Forward: Nichols, Hulm, Thurley Forwards: Allen, Ricci, Donato Followers: Beaumont, M.Geappen, B.Geappen Interchange: Barling, Stirling, Millar IN: Cole - returning from injury Ricci Hulm - returning from injury Donato - returning from injury Millar - returning from injury Barling OUT: Davis - omitted Leitch - omitted Burnett - omitted Whitelaw - omitted Beechey - omitted Youd - omitted GLENORCHY Backs: Kaye, Green, Gardner Half Backs: Rogers, Reid, Foale Centre: S.Stevenson, Atkin, Capaldi Half Forwards: Glenn, Carter, T.Stevenson Forwards: Chandler, Free, Wylie Followers: Curran, Britten, Ball Interchange: McGee, Ling, Kamaric IN: T.Stevenson - returning form injury Green - returning from injury Ball Chandler OUT: P.Ryan - ankle injury Fooks - knee injury Longman - omitted Cornish - omitted **************************************************************************** RESULTS CLARENCE 15.15.105 defeated GLENORCHY 9.9.63 BEST CLARENCE Cooney, Jones, M.Geappen, Donato, Ransley, Allen, Winter GLENORCHY Carter, Atkin, T.Green, S.Stevenson, Capaldi, Free GOALS CLARENCE Allen 4, B.Geappen 3, Ricci 2, Read 2, Millar 2, Hulm, Donato GLENORCHY Atkin 3, Free 2, T.Green, S.Stevenson, Kamaric, Chandler INJURIES CLARENCE M.Geappen - calf/knee Beaumont - knee GLENORCHY Kaye - thigh Glenn - hip Gardner - blurred vision REPORTS CLARENCE Hulm reported by 4 umpires for striking T.Green 1 match set penalty ROUND UP ROOS FOUR QUARTER EFFORT PROVES A WINNER The Magpies had it and lost it, what could've been their biggest win for the year, was ruined by a lack of commitment and run in the final quarter of their game this week. The Roos ran out with a 42 point win. The Pies were held goalless in the first quarter but came out firing in the second, the came close to the Roos and their hard work in the third quarter was ruined in the last quarter when they ran out of gas. On the Half time siren tempers were frayed and a small scuffle between the Roo bagman Peter Ricci and Magpie back man Ben Reid turned into a full blown melee with 1 report, it was that of Wally Hulm for striking Tim Green. Gavin Cooney was a good four quarter effort as was Matthew Jones. Scott Allen again proved dangerous around goals and kicked a couple of freaky goals. and youngster Brett Geappen chipped in with 3. For the Magpies their captain Ben Atkin led by example and was fantastic in every quarter, he was probably only upstaged by the bigman Craig Carter. **************************************************************************** NEXT WEEK: CLARENCE v DEVONPORT (Bellerive) BURNIE v BOMBERS (West Park) HOBART DEMONS v GLENORCHY (KGV) **************************************************************************** LADDER NORTHERN BOMBERS 36 CLARENCE 28 BURNIE 20 HOBART DEMONS 20 GLENORCHY 12 DEVONPORT 0 **************************************************************************** LEADING GOAL KICKERS ALLEN (Clarence) 35 DEVINE (Demons) 34 CHUGG (Bombers) 21 WILLIAMS (Burnie) 17 TAYLOR (Bombers) 17 COTTAM (Bombers) 16 HARNETT (Dockers) 16 ATKIN (Glenorchy) 15 C.RYAN (Glenorchy) 14 AHERNE (Bombers) 14 **************************************************************************** Under 21's CLARENCE 13.11.89 defeated GLENORCHY 9.7.61 HOBART DEMONS 12.18.90 defeated DEVONPORT 6.7.43 NORTHERN BOMBERS 7.17.59 defeated BURNIE DOCKERS 7.8.50 **************************************************************************** Under 18's CLARENCE (A) 15.5.95 defeated HOBART DEMONS 10.4.64 GLENORCHY (A) 8.7.55 defeated CLARENCE (B) 4.7.31 NORTHERN BOMBERS (A) 9.14.68 defeated BURNIE DOCKERS 5.8.38 DEVONPORT POWER (A) 10.4.64 defeated HOBART DEMONS (A) 6.6.42 **************************************************************************** OTHER LEAGUE RESULTS SFL LAUDERDALE 11.11.77 defeated CYGNET 5.10.40 HOBART 24.12.156 defeated BRIGHTON 9.9.63 CLAREMONT 10.5.65 defeated KINGSTON 6.13.49 HUONVILLE LIONS 10.14.74 defeated LINDISFARNE 3.5.23 KERMANDIE 9.13.67 defeated NEW NORFOLK 8.8.56 SORELL 14.13.97 defeated CHANNEL 3.4.22 PENINSULA EAGLEHAWK NECK 13.6.84 defeated NUBEENA 10.7.67 PORT ARTHUR 23.18.155 defeated PREMAYDENA 2.5.17 ODFA Mt PLEASANT 10.6.66 defeated OATLANDS 5.6.36 KEMPTON 10.8.68 defeated BOTHWELL 2.7.19 WOODSDALE 20.16.136 defeated TUNNACK 5.5.35 TASMAN SWANSEA 30.13.193 defeated DODGES FERRY 14.10.94 RICHMOND 50.25.325 defeated CAMBRIDGE 0.2.2 OLD SCHOLARS HUTCHINS 12.11.83 defeated FRIENDS 9.6.60 OHA 18.14.122 defeated UNIVERSITY 12.11.53 DOSA 11.14.80 defeated St VIRGILS 6.14.50 NTFL LATROBE 17.11.113 defeated PENGUIN 11.10.76 ULVERSTONE 14.21.105 defeated DELORAINE 11.9.75 SOUTH LAUNCESTON 17.14.116 defeated WYNYARD 12.14.86 SMITHTON 30.9.190 defeated EAST DEVONPORT 6.6.42 **************************************************************************** FINAL SIREN Till next Week, get out there and support your club and the league, lets get some butts on seats this year and let the doubters know, that Tasmanian Football is still alive!!! **************************************************************************** |
