In slippery conditions the Bombers proved classier and their use of the greasy ball was much more controlled as they continued on their unbeaten way. The first quarter was a spiteful one with a few to'do's going on. The Bombers went into the second half leading by 8 points but pulled away to win by 40. Nathan Howard was like a brickwall on the half back line and repelled the ball on most occasions, causing problems for the Burnie forwards. Brendon Bolton and Jason French's use of the slippery ball was the difference between the two teams, while Burnie was all fumbles, the Bombers clean use was resulting in goals. For the Dockers Errol Bourn was again best afield, he gathered around 43 possessions and stamped his mark on the game from the first bounce. However he wasn't helped by his teammates and this led to the Dockers demise. **************************************************************************** TEAMS CLARENCE Backs: Thurley, Cole, Ransley Half Backs: Davey, Winter, McCallum Centre: Read, Jones, Millar Half Forwards: Whitelaw, Allen, B.Geappen Forwards: Donato, Ricci, Anderson Followers: Beaumont, Barling, Cooney Interchange: Stirling, Jamieson, Leitch IN: Anderson Leitch Whitelaw OUT: Nichols - ankle injury Hulm - serving a one match suspension M.Geappen - flu DEVONPORT POWER Backs: Flannery, O'Keefe, Faull Half Backs: McIvor, Richardson, Woodcock Centre: Duggan, Lowe, Wilkinson Half Forward: McPherson, Scolyer, Astell Forward: A.Smith, Masters, S.Smith Followers: Langmaid, Johnston, Holland Interchange: Cook, Lovatt, Glover IN: Johnston Wilkinson OUT: Philpott - omitted Wells - omitted **************************************************************************** RESULTS CLARENCE 34.9.213 defeated DEVONPORT POWER 7.8.50 BEST CLARENCE Read, Beaumont, Jones, Cooney, Allen, Thurley, B.Geappen, Ricci, Millar DEVONPORT POWER Duggan, S.Smith, Langmaid, Scolyer, Johnson GOALS CLARENCE Allen 8, Ricci 8, Thurley 4, Donato 3, Jones 2, Jamieson 2, Winter 2, Cooney, B.Geappen, Beaumont, Leitch, Millar DEVONPORT POWER Masters 2, S.Smith, Lowe, Lovatt, Scolyer, Wilkinson INJURIES CLARENCE nil DEVONPORT POWER Richardson - elbow Johnson - ankle REPORTS nil ROUND UP UNSTOPPABLE FORWARD LINE MAULS THE POWER A combination forward line of the 'bigman' Peter Ricci, the 'freak' Scott Allen and the youngster Cameron Thurley proved a killer against the Power when between them they booted 20 goals. Ricci and Allen booted 8 each and Thurley chipped in with his best haul this year of 4. The Power were totally baffled by the speed of the midfield with Brett Geappen, Jarrod Read, Craig Millar and the veteran Cooney running havoc through the midfield and forward lines. Any opportunities they had to score were destroyed by the potent backline of Davey, McCallum and Cole. The Roos ran out 163 point winners and looked more like they were going through a training drill. Charles Beaumont dominated the ruck, while David Donato was used in various positions around the ground. For the Power tireless captain Matthew Langmaid fought his heart out again and with support form Paul Duggan and Shane Smith, they held the Power up, and made sure the loss was not bigger **************************************************************************** TEAMS HOBART DEMONS Backs: Veitch, Splann, Williams Half Backs: Jurd, Bracken, Hall Centre: Hill, J.Brereton, Hawkins Half Forward: Mills, Robinson, Trevena Forwards: Boucher, M.Brereton, Devine Followers: Best, James, Woods Interchange: Ackerley, Dickson, Rigby IN: Ackerley - returning from Mariners duty OUT: B.Scott - omitted GLENORCHY Backs: Richter, Rogers, P.Ryan Half Backs: Kaye, T.Green, McCluskie Centre: Foale, Matthew Ball, Chandler Half Forwards: S.Stevenson, Carter, Britten Forwards: C.Ryan, Free, Kamaric Followers: Curran, Atkin, Gregg Interchange: Wylie, Glenn, Reid IN: P.Ryan - returning from injury C.Ryan - returning from injury Richter Gregg McCluskie OUT: T.Stevenson - hamstring injury Capaldi - mariners duty Ling - omitted McGee - omitted Gardner - omitted **************************************************************************** RESULTS HOBART DEMONS 9.24.78 defeated GLENORCHY 10.10.70 BEST HOBART DEMONS J.Brereton, Woods, M.Brereton, Williams, Trevena, Veitch GLENORCHY Carter, Atkins, Rogers, Foale, Free, Stevenson, Britten GOALS HOBART DEMONS Devine 4, M.Brereton, Trevena, Woods, J.Brereton, Bracken GLENORCHY Free 3, C.Ryan 2, Britten, S.Stevenson, P.Ryan, Kamaric, Atkin INJURIES HOBART DEMONS nil GLENORCHY Kaye - suspected broken leg REPORTS nil ROUND UP DEMONS RISE FROM THE GRAVE - AGAIN For the second time this season, the Hobart Demons have against the odds come from a three quarter time deficit to beat a shattered Glenorchy Magpies team. At three quarter time the Demons had only registered 2 majors for the game and managed to win by 8 points booting 7.6 in the last quarter. An attack on their integrity and pride in the jumpers by coach Trevena most probably jerked his team into action, they came out guns blazing and Robert Devine who had been harassed by his younger, smarter and quicker opponent in Kane Richter, booted 3 goals to take the last laugh. Jeremy Brereton was the best on ground for the day, his tireless work through the midfield proved a turning point in the last quarter, Woods was also well used around the ground. For the Magpies Craig Carter was best on ground followed closely by the ever present Ben Atkin who mauled his opposition with a bagful of touches. **************************************************************************** NEXT WEEK: DEVONPORT v BURNIE (Devonport) NORTHERN BOMBERS v HOBART DEMONS (York Park) GLENORCHY v CLARENCE (KGV) **************************************************************************** LADDER NORTHERN BOMBERS 40 CLARENCE 32 HOBART DEMONS 24 BURNIE 20 GLENORCHY 12 DEVONPORT 0 **************************************************************************** LEADING GOAL KICKERS ALLEN (Clarence) 43 DEVINE (Demons) 38 CHUGG (Bombers) 24 WILLIAMS (Burnie) 19 COTTAM (Bombers) 18 TAYLOR (Bombers) 17 HARNETT (Dockers) 16 ATKIN (Glenorchy) 16 C.RYAN (Glenorchy) 16 AHERNE (Bombers) 14 **************************************************************************** Under 21's GLENORCHY 8.6.54 defeated HOBART DEMONS 8.5.53 CLARENCE 19.21.135 defeated DEVONPORT POWER 8.10.58 NORTHERN BOMBERS 6.21.57 defeated BURNIE DOCKERS 4.8.32 **************************************************************************** Under 18's HOBART DEMONS (B) 6.4.40 defeated CLARENCE (B) 3.6.24 GLENORCHY (A) 6.12.48 defeated HOBART DEMONS (A) 4.2.26 CLARENCE (A) 7.13.55 defeated DEVONPORT POWER (A) 6.3.39 BURNIE DOCKERS (A) 3.8.26 defeated NORTHERN BOMBERS (A) 3.4.22 **************************************************************************** OTHER LEAGUE RESULTS SFL LAUDERDALE 12.12.84 defeated CHANNEL 7.8.50 CLAREMONT 9.13.67 defeated SORELL 7.10.52 KERMANDIE 22.18.150 defeated KINGSTON 9.8.62 HOBART 23.19.157 defeated LINDISFARNE 7.5.47 BRIGHTON 12.8.80 defeated CYGNET 9.11.65 NEW NORFOLK 15.8.98 defeated HUONVILLE LIONS 8.9.57 PENINSULA EAGLEHAWK NECK 22.28.168 defeated PORT ARTHUR 4.2.30 NUBEENA 14.22.106 defeated PREMAYDENA 5.10.40 ODFA Mt PLEASANT 16.8.104 defeated KEMPTON 9.10.64 WOODSDALE 13.13.91 defeated OATLANDS 10.7.67 BOTHWELL 22.8.140 defeated TUNNACK 2.7.19 TASMAN DODGES FERRY 24.15.159 defeated TRIABUNNA 4.2.26 SWANSEA 63.24.402 defeated CAMBRIDGE 2.1.13 NTFL LATROBE 21.13.139 defeated DELORAINE 6.12.48 SMITHTON 18.22.130 defeated WYNYARD 7.16.58 SOUTH LAUNCESTON 15.4.94 defeated LAUNCESTON 9.11.65 ULVERSTONE 15.20.110 defeated PENGUIN 9.6.60 **************************************************************************** FINAL SIREN Till next Week, get out there and support your club and the league, lets get some butts on seats this year and let the doubters know, that Tasmanian Football is still alive!!! **************************************************************************** |
